What is Search Engine Optimization?

Basically, Search Engine Optimization or simply SEO is all about helping websites rank higher on the organic (or “natural) search results of search engines.

The higher the site ranks, the more visitors and hence the more customers you will get!

Search Engine optimization is the art of building a website in such a way so as to please both the customer and the search engine.

Why do we need Search Engine Optimization?

We live in an internet era in which consumers can tune through the surfeit of information. As matter of fact, 92% internet users use search engines on which a stunning amount of 100 Billion web searches are being carried out every month and 78 % buyers use search engines before buying their products.

10 Top Social Media Sites

Here is fresh top 10 social networking sites’ market share data in US. It has some interesting changes.

Moving up

Youtube has jumped to its highest level ever. Seems that people are watching more and more clips and that brings the video site to 24.15 percent market share of visits. LinkedIn is another site that has reached its highest market share of visits. I

t has grown from low 0.63% in December 2012 to a record high 0.89 percent last month. LinkedIn moved to 6th position in the top 10 overtaking Google+. April and May are the active business months that may help the business social network to grow its market share even more.

Tumblr is also at its highest market share of visits, reaching 0.42 percent in March 2013.

Moving down

Facebook has fallen to its lowest market share of visits in almost 3 years. Facebook continues to be the dominant social networking site but the loss of 3% of market share means 100 million visits.

Twitter is down, too. It has fallen to 1.72 percent of market share of visits. This is the lowest number in 12 months and the trend-line seems to point down.

Pinterest is slightly down. It has moved from 1.17% in February to 1.14% in March. Although a down this level seems to be stable for the pinning site. It is hard to say what’s behind the declining numbers if the leading social networking sites.

My guess is that one factor that brins down the numbers is the fact that usage through mobile apps is not tracked. The other factor may be that the market is saturated and people are less active when using these sites. This does not mean that they stop using social networking sites but there’s less “excitement” that translates to less frequent usage.

Instagram is back in top 10. Yahoo Answers continues to inch up. Google+ is moving sideways.
