edge browser

Edge is the new Microsoft browser (code name: Spartan). It will be released with Windows 10 whose launch is announced for July 29. The publisher has Edge as a new generation of browser, powerful, innovative, and especially designed for the modern web. It is already possible to test it in beta by downloading the Windows 10 desktop Preview, or Windows 10 beta Mobile (designed for smartphones and tablets). Edge will not replace Microsoft Internet Explorer completely, but will be offered as an alternative to it. It will be integrated with Windows 10 alongside IE that will remain present in the desktop version of the OS.

A browser that is more efficient than Chrome and Firefox

Microsoft insists on the optimization work conducted around the motor of its browser. Objective: To accelerate the implementation of websites, including improved JavaScript JIT compiler Chakra. According to the publisher, the optimization allow Edge to go well beyond the JavaScript execution performance of Chrome and Firefox. In support of its analysis, it highlights the results recorded by the browser during the Jet Stream tests (developed by Apple) and Octane 2.0 (proposed by Google).

The results of the Jet Stream test states that Microsoft Edge runs web applications 1.6 times faster than Internet Explorer 11. According Octane test, it would even be 2 times more efficient in this exercise as its predecessor. Both comparisons were made with a variation of browsers on an HP machine (equipped with Windows 10) with 12 GB of RAM and a next generation processor (Intel Core i7 860 CPU clocked at 2.80GHz).

HTML: Definition

HTML or “Hypertext Mark-Up Language” is a “marking” language whose role is to formalize writing a document with formatting tags. The language is nowadays most commonly used in the creation of webpages. The tags allow you to specify how the document should be presented and the relationship it has with other documents.
The tags used are written in between angle braces. For example, <html>.

Here is a list of all existing html tags.

HTML: Internet

HTML allows the playback of documents on the Internet from different computers, thanks to the HTTP protocol, allowing access via the network to documents identified by a unique address, called a URL.

The World Wide Web (WWW for short), or simply Web is a “virtual canvas” formed by the various documents (called “web pages”) linked together by means of hyperlinks.
Web pages are usually organized around a home page, playing a central point in the navigation using hyperlinks. This coherent set of web pages linked by hyperlinks and centered around a common home page is called web site.
The Web is a huge living archive composed of a myriad of websites offering web pages that may contain formatted text, images, sounds, video, etc.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Basically, Search Engine Optimization or simply SEO is all about helping websites rank higher on the organic (or “natural) search results of search engines.

The higher the site ranks, the more visitors and hence the more customers you will get!

Search Engine optimization is the art of building a website in such a way so as to please both the customer and the search engine.

Why do we need Search Engine Optimization?

As matter of fact, 92% internet users use search engines on which a stunning amount of 100 Billion web searches are being carried out every month and 78 % buyers use search engines before buying their products.

Being visible on the internet will have no other effects than increasing your sales and hence your revenues.

Google Glass: What you need to know.

google-glasses

What is Google Glass?

Google glass is a wearable technology with an optical head-mounted display (OHMD). That revolutionary smart eyewear looks like its buzzing many people around until they experience the awfully nice sensation of wearing it.

It displays information just like conventional Smartphone does but in a hands-free holographic format via a small prism found on the frame. Unlike casual Smartphone information is input through voice commands instead of the traditional input methods (Touch screen or keys).

How does Google Glass work?

Google Glass interface uses voice commands as well as an integrated button which facilitates the execution of certain commands. The message “Ok glass” is the most common one you see, it activates as you tilt your head up or tap the side.

Visual programming languages for desktop and mobile

Since the late fifties, digital computers, even when they weighed several tons and filled entire climate-controlled rooms, have always received their instructions in text form. These instructions differ from spoken languages by their restricted syntax, since the machines that they are meant for must first convert them into simplified mathematical operations. Of course, with progress we have gone from machine language programming in octal or hexadecimal notation to assembler and to modern languages like COBOL, FORTRAN, C, BASIC or JavaScript which allow programmers to concentrate on finishing their projects faster instead of focusing on the intricacies of the machines themselves.

With the spread of multimedia, windowing systems and the invention of the mouse near the late seventies, some researchers wondered if it wouldn’t be more efficient if computers could be programmed by drawing easily understood diagrams instead of writing pages upon pages of text for these machines. Even though this method of programming hasn’t really been democratized yet, there are now several software programs that have been created to allow for a truly visual way of programming computers.

Apple Automator:

The most widespread visual programming software is Automator, which is distributed for free inside every Macintosh computer from Apple Corporation. With it, people can create workflows to automate simple tasks such as the resizing of photos in a folder, the automatic connection to servers and the download of files that might be there or the automatic reformatting of documents. However the extreme simplification of this software rarely enables the creation of more complex programs. To program games or more serious calculation software, other programs are needed.

10 Top Social Media Sites

10 Top Social Media Sites

Here is fresh top 10 social networking sites’ market share data in US. It has some interesting changes.

Moving up

Youtube has jumped to its highest level ever. Seems that people are watching more and more clips and that brings the video site to 24.15 percent market share of visits. LinkedIn is another site that has reached its highest market share of visits. I

t has grown from low 0.63% in December 2012 to a record high 0.89 percent last month. LinkedIn moved to 6th position in the top 10 overtaking Google+. April and May are the active business months that may help the business social network to grow its market share even more.

Tumblr is also at its highest market share of visits, reaching 0.42 percent in March 2013.

Moving down

Facebook has fallen to its lowest market share of visits in almost 3 years. Facebook continues to be the dominant social networking site but the loss of 3% of market share means 100 million visits.

Twitter is down, too. It has fallen to 1.72 percent of market share of visits. This is the lowest number in 12 months and the trend-line seems to point down.

Pinterest is slightly down. It has moved from 1.17% in February to 1.14% in March. Although a down this level seems to be stable for the pinning site. It is hard to say what’s behind the declining numbers if the leading social networking sites.

My guess is that one factor that brins down the numbers is the fact that usage through mobile apps is not tracked. The other factor may be that the market is saturated and people are less active when using these sites. This does not mean that they stop using social networking sites but there’s less “excitement” that translates to less frequent usage.

Instagram is back in top 10. Yahoo Answers continues to inch up. Google+ is moving sideways.
